09 July 2010 - South West Sydney set to benefit from new community infrastructure
Chris Hayes MP, Federal Member for Werriwa welcomed the announcement that the Federal Government has opened applications and released funding amounts for all local governments in the region under Round Three of the Regional and Local Community Infrastructure Program (RLCIP).
“This round will provide up to $1,434, 000 for 3 local governments including Campbelltown City Council, Liverpool City Council and Camden Council as part of a $100 million national round for local community infrastructure priorities” said Mr Hayes.
“Across the community, the Government has delivered record funding for a range of great community projects in our area including the refurbishment of Coronation Park Netball Complex at Minto, renovations at the Whitlam Leisure Centre at Liverpool and the most needed renewal of sports grounds and playgrounds.
Importantly now, each and every local government will receive new funding for community infrastructure in our area. This includes:
- $649,000 for Campbelltown City Council;
- $522,000 for Liverpool City Council; and
- $263,000 for Camden Council.
“Round Three provides greater flexibility for our community, with changes made to allow councils and shires to nominate:
- projects on behalf of local community organisations;
- projects as part of a group of councils; and
- environmental protection and climate change infrastructure projects.
Mr Hayes said “I am again encouraging residents, community members and organisations to get in touch with their council and let them know your priorities for local infrastructure.
“I have seen first hand these projects have created jobs and delivered an economic boost in the community while improving the quality of life for local residents.
“The Government is committed to supporting our local community and providing better infrastructure and services and I have also written to all local councils strongly urging them to submit eligible local priorities by 30 July 2010” said Mr Hayes.
