22 July 2010 - Next stage in Liverpool's premier sport and leisure centre

Assistant Treasurer, Senator Nick Sherry and Chris Hayes MP, Member for Werriwa, today announced the next stage of the $1.9 million Whitlam Leisure Centre refurbishment in Liverpool.

The Centre will have its front entry upgraded by December 2010 through an investment of $200,000 and have car park security lighting installed by September 2010 through an investment of $150,000, as part of the Gillard Labor Government’s Regional and Local Community Infrastructure Program.

The Assistant Treasurer and Mr Hayes also announced that the next stage of the upgrade will include a sun shelter over the outside 50 metre pool grandstand, which will be completed 30 June 2011 through an investment of $900,000.

This new stage comes after earlier investment in the Whitlam Leisure Centre saw the sports stadium floor refurbished and new grandstand seating installed.

Work is also continuing on replacing the roof of the aquatic centre, gym, forecourt, spa and change rooms, as well as the refurbishment of the male and female change rooms.

This important recreational centre will provide a modern sporting facility for the residents of Liverpool, as well as local schools, sporting groups, visitors and athletes.

The Gillard Labor Government is committed to providing the quality, safe and modern infrastructure the local community in Liverpool and those living across south western Sydney deserve.

Funding for today’s announcement has already been provided for from the Regional and Local Community Infrastructure Program.
