$1.8 MILLION FOR WERRIWA SCHOOLS
Member for
Werriwa Chris Hayes has welcomed the announcement of more than
$1.8 million in grants for 25 schools in the Werriwa electorate
through the Investing In Our Schools Program.
“This is
great news for local schools.
“I
congratulate the schools and the parents and citizens associations
who have taken the time to sit down and prepare a submission –
their school will benefit from their efforts”, Mr Hayes said.
“The grants
will allow works such as improvements in floor coverings, the
installation of security and safety equipment, the installation of
air conditioning and the improvement to school facilities”, he
said.
Mr Hayes said
that these were important areas of spending for both students and
teachers.
“I strongly
support any spending in local schools that will not only improve
the comfort of the learning environment but will also improve
facilities generally.
Mr Hayes said
the announcement comes on the back of the success of schools in
the electorate who will receive funding through the Success for
Boys initiative.
“Three
schools in the electorate received grants of more than $10,000
each to access high quality professional learning based on
national and international research aimed at improving the
education of boys”, Mr Hayes said.
“I just hope
that all of the successful schools receive their money in a timely
manner so that work can begin as soon as possible.
“It will be a
great boost to all of the successful schools once they have all
their new facilities in place”, Mr Hayes said.
Mr Hayes said
that despite the good news that it was disappointing that the
Government continued to play politics with the programme by
inserting a requirement for successful schools must participate in
Australian Government publicity and that the opening ceremony is
to be overseen by a Government member – not necessarily the local
representative.
