PROMISED UPGRADE OF CAMPBELLTOWN
STADIUM IS SET TO START
The Rudd
Government has today announced at the first home game of the
Wests Tigers in Campbelltown for 2008, that it has approved
the $8 million funding to upgrade the Campbelltown Sports
Stadium.
Mr
Hayes said “In November last year, prior to the election,
Labor pledged an $8 million boost, and this announcement
today reinforces that Labor is committed to its election
promise to provide funding for the upgrade to transform the
stadium and its adjoining facilities into one of the premier
sporting precincts in Western Sydney”
“This
stadium caters for many sports including rugby league,
soccer and rugby union and all these teams deserve the best
sporting infrastructure possible, in addition they want
their Campbelltown home to reflect the pride the community
has in them” said Mr Hayes.
“I have
worked closely with the Campbelltown City Council to secure
this commitment, who recognises the importance of investing
in local community structure, not only for the people of
Campbelltown, but also for the region generally”
“I am
proud to be part of the local Labor team who will deliver on
a stadium that we can be proud of and that the whole
community can enjoy. This is another investment in the
future of our region” said Mr Hayes.
The
funding will be delivered in two stages, the first stage
will provide an initial $6 million with a further $2 million
being provided in stage two.
The
commitment of these funds will provide:
-
Additional seating for 3685 people
- Full
refurbishment of player facilities
- Lift
access in the western grandstand allowing people with a
disability to access all seating levels
- An
electronic portable video screen
-
Upgrade of the western grandstand’s catering, media and
toilet facilities
Our
region has a proud sporting heritage producing many
champions and this investment will mean that our next
generation of sporting stars will have a better stadium to
play at and better facilities where they watch their
sporting heroes play.
Work is
expected to commence at the end of the 2008 football season.
